More than 80 dealers from across Europe attended the largest spring gathering of collectors of postage stamps, coins, banknotes, postcards, and other collectibles. Also in attendance were stamp designers and a beautifully restored Tatra 603. Collectors will have another chance to meet on September 4–5 at the fall Sberatel fair at the PVA Expo exhibition center Prague.
The spring Sberatel fair took place at the Olympik Hotel in Prague on March 20–21. In addition to the opportunity to expand their collections and meet friends, visitors were treated to an interesting accompanying program. And just as in previous years, they could have their own brought-in stamps, coins, banknotes, as well as autographs or old stock certificates, appraised by independent experts from professional organizations.

The legendary Czechoslovakian Jawa 50/20 “Pionýr” motorcycle, which was manufactured from 1966 to 1980, celebrated its 60th anniversary at the fair. To mark the occasion, visitors could purchase a 0-euro souvenir banknote, a nine-stamp sheet, a postcard, or a poster at the fair.

Visitors were able to admire the beautifully restored Tatra 603 on the first day of the fair. It was a big surprise, especially for visitors and exhibitors from abroad, many of whom had never seen this gem of Czechoslovak design before.

Visitors and journalists alike were interested in the exhibition “Concorde – A Legend in Collections.” The famous supersonic aircraft is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its first passenger flight this year. And its journeys, which always caused a stir, are well documented by a range of philatelic materials. The anniversary was also marked by commemorative coins and medals.

On display were postal envelopes from the very first test flight in 1969 as well as the last one, which took place in 2003. A major rarity at the exhibition was a rare postal envelope with a cancellation commemorating the Concorde’s first visit to what was then still socialist Czechoslovakia in 1986. The Concorde also appeared on dozens of postage stamps, including those from countries such as North Korea and socialist Hungary.

On Friday, collectors had the opportunity to obtain a special exhibition postmark at the mobile post office vehicle parked in front of the hotel.
