The view of the Kozel (Goat in Czech) forest castle from a nearby hill is the work of artist Ivana Lomová, for whom this is the first postage stamp. For inspiration, the artist went directly to the place where she looked for the best view of the castle and also for interesting details of the castle.
The author used markers, watercolour and crayons to create her original design. “Originally, I naively thought that if I was to create a postage stamp, I could come up with a theme myself,” the author recalls with a laugh. “That’s why I was a bit embarrassed about the Kozel Castle at first, I thought it was too drab.”
But then she went to visit the place in person and, as she says, she found the connection of the building with the landscape, the layout of the buildings and the beautiful park around it to be a very charming and pleasant place.
The symbol of the goat is present almost everywhere in the castle, so it is no coincidence that it is the main motif of the postmark. The FDC then offers a glimpse into the front door of the castle with a view of the rectangular inner courtyard.
The stamp has a value of 39 CZK expressed by the letter E and is therefore intended for sending parcels within Europe. It was printed offset in an edition of 96,000, and digitally FDC in a total of 2,500.
All of the newly issued stamps of the Czech Post will be available for purchase at its stand at the international fair Sberatel / Collector, which will take place from 8 to 9 September at the PVA Expo in Prague.
